Unity is found!! Thanks for all the shares, searches, and flyer posts — I am deeply and forever grateful.
Someone who was on the trail behind us actually saw her come out of the trailer, and me ride off without realizing it. He took her in, fed her, and called the number on the little QR tag on her collar, which went to an old friend I'd lost track of. He answered, vouched for me, and promised to come pick Uni up and get her back to me (or take care of her until I located him — that was his promise to me). He found my number locally and brought her to me. She's perhaps a little exhausted and confused, but healthy and sound, and was excited to see me of course. She ate twice and has been happily snoozing on her bed since.
If I can make one last set of asks — first of all, please find Wess Staats on socials, subscribe to and watch the videos on her website, and stay in touch for next time. She jumps into action immediately to start tracking a lost dog, like she did as soon as I called her. She's literally a pro at this, has a new nonprofit to build through, and she and her volunteer team come highly recommended for a reason.
Next, if anyone would be willing to collect and take down flyers, I'm so freaking beat and I need a break before I get back out there.
Almost last: I'm hoping to make this as close to impossible as possible, to avoid this ever happening again. There's a company called Fi that makes several versions of a tracking/behavior/monitoring collar — one of them is Starlink-connected. Tygr gave me $200 toward the $408 or so for the monitoring/behavior version with the collar, the satellite communicator, and the yearly subscription. Reach out directly if you want to pitch in. I do have a small biz and do consulting work, but multiple health issues recently have literally ground me to a crawl in productivity, and I'm barely getting by. And yes, Uni has plenty of food!
And last: as I write this, Tygr is driving, and I'm waiting on him to send me the contact info for the person who took her in and called him — there will be a public thank-you path if he is open to it.
I think we're going to toss a few things in the car and head up the mountain to get away from the heat.
